Sports Sponsoring

Supporting projects in the areas of sports, social issues and culture has always been a major concern for the Gauselmann family. As a result, many regional amateur and numerous professional clubs from a wide range of sports can rely on support from the Gauselmann company - even and especially in difficult times!

Regional commitment

The funds provided by the Paul and Karin Gauselmann Foundation are used to realize many sports projects in the region. The focus is primarily on promoting youth work and encouraging young talents. Many regional sports clubs have also received continuous support from the Gauselmann Group for many years. For example, as the main sponsor of the soccer team “FC Preußen Espelkamp” as well as the tennis club “Espelkamp-Mittwald”, where Paul Gauselmann himself still plays tennis and has built up a performance base for senior tennis with teams in the 70 and 75 age groups, winning numerous regional and national championship titles.

Engagement in professional sports

In addition to the numerous amateur clubs, the Gauselmann Group supports professional sports. For example, the company is the main sponsor of the federal division handball team “TUS N-Lübbecke” and has been involved in the Bundesliga soccer team “DSC Arminia Bielefeld” for years. There the Gauselmann Group is not only involved in sports sponsorship, but also works together with other well-known regional companies in the so-called "Bündnis OWL" to support the long-term preservation and reestablishment of the soccer club, giving financially support and realizing improvements . Following this example, the company is also involved in the new OWL Arena in Halle/Westphalia, which was named after a consortium of 13 sponsors. The annual international ATP 500 tournament Noventi Open (formerly Gerry Weber Open) held there is also a great part of the Gauselmann Group's professional sports sponsorship.

Since 2018, the Gauselmann Group has extended its long-standing commitment to sports beyond regional borders. Since then, the Gauselmann Group has been a sponsor of the sports city of Düsseldorf. This cooperation includes, on the one hand, the naming rights to the Düsseldorf soccer stadium, the "MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA", and, on the other hand, the support of numerous Düsseldorf sports clubs such as the Düsseldorf Ice Skating Community (DEG), the ART Giants basketball team, the handball players of the Bergischer HC and the team of olympic athletes based in Düsseldorf. Since the 20/21 season, the Gauselmann Group has also been the (lucky) gaming partner of the second-division soccer team Fortuna Düsseldorf, which is based at the MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA.

In 2020, the company is expanding its commitment to sport to include main sponsorship in e-sports. With the MERKUR MASTERS, the Gauselmann Group is setting new standards in sporting integrity and sustainable development of e-sports in Germany. In the tournament, which is held over two seasons, both amateurs and real professionals will compete to be crowned Germany’s best Counterstrike Global Offensive Team.
